Play Safe Summer

Play Safe Summer is a Peer Education program funded by the HIV and Related Programs Unit within the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District

Project Youth deliver this program with support from NSW Health annually during December through to April. The program aims to provide young people with sexual health, Alcohol and Drug harm reduction, and viral hepatitis information through peer education within the community. The program recruits and trains young people to deliver this information to their peers in public spaces and at youth-oriented events across St George and Sutherland Shire.

In the 2024/2025 season our Peer Educators engaged with 1522 young people across Sutherland Shire and St George areas and were provided information on sexual health and harm minimisation. The majority of these young people were aged 16-17 years old.

This program provides employment for 12 young people each season

“I really enjoying going out in the community and giving information about safe sex to other young people”

“I’m more comfortable receiving information on sexual health and how to minimise alcohol and drug intake from other young people my age, it’s not awkward, they understand”
