Be A Young Advocate

The BEAR Project

Be Engaged, Act, Rise

At the heart of The BEAR Project are our Young Advocates — passionate students from local high schools across the Sutherland Shire, Georges River, and Bayside LGAs who are leading the movement to end youth homelessness.

These young people are more than just representatives of their schools — they are
leaders, changemakers, and role models within their communities. They’re starting conversations that challenge stigma, breaking down barriers to understanding, and inspiring others to take action. By amplifying the voices of their peers, they are helping to build a community where every young person feels seen, supported, and valued.

Through The BEAR Project, each Young Advocate receives:

  • Ongoing leadership training and mentorship to develop the skills and confidence to create meaningful social impact.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with other ambassadors, youth workers, and community partners to design and lead local initiatives.
  • Support to take action within their school, creating safe and inclusive environments for students who may be at risk or experiencing homelessness.
  • Pathways for personal and professional growth, including advocacy, public speaking, and project management experience.

By becoming a BEAR Project Young Advocate, students gain the tools to not only change their own futures but to transform the future of their community.

Every action they take — every conversation, campaign, or initiative — contributes to a growing local movement that believes no young person should face homelessness alone.

Together, our Young Advocate’s are leading a new generation of community leadership — one rooted in empathy, awareness, and action — and proving that young people have the power to create lasting change.

Each year, a new group of Young Advocate’s are selected at the beginning of the school year to lead The BEAR Project within their schools and local communities.

As a Young Advocate, you’ll have the opportunity to create real change, raise awareness, and help shape a community where every young person feels safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to be part of this youth-led movement, we’d love to hear from you!
