The Role
The Role:
The Peer Worker – Community Engagement role plays a vital role in supporting young people by drawing on their own lived experience and insight.
This role involves providing peer support to young people accessing our services, as well as delivering education on youth homelessness to local schools and community groups.
A key responsibility is to support young people who attend the COMPASS program in Miranda each Friday. This includes offering information, advice, and guidance, assisting with referrals to relevant services, and supporting access to emergency resources, employment, and education opportunities.
Additionally, the Peer Worker will represent Project Youth at local schools and community events across the Sutherland and Georges River areas. This involves raising awareness about youth homelessness, sharing the stories of young people, and educating the community around Youth Homelessness.
The Main Responsibilities
Your commitment will be to:
• Be available to work each Thursday & Friday during school terms
• Support young people through information, advice, and guidance at our COMPASS program each Friday
• Deliver school and community group presentations about Youth Homelessness across Sutherland and Georges River
The Person
• Are you aged between 18–24 years?
• Do you have lived experience related to homelessness, housing instability, mental health, education, justice involvement, or other barriers faced by young people ?
• Are you interested in making a difference and want to speak up for young people in your community ?
• Are you confident in public speaking?
• Are you passionate about providing support to other young people and making a difference?
