Cafe Y Cook

The Role

The role will be based in Menai - South East Sydney.


The role is for a period of 12 months. It is a fulltime position 38 hours per week and paid at Restaurant Industry Award 2010 (General) 


The cook will report directly to the Cafe Supervisor.

The Main Responsibilities

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience as a cook (preparation, cooking and presentation of food to a high standard)
  • Proven experience in ordering and maintain stock (efficient with minimal waste)
  • Proven experience in hospitality and safe food handling
  • A current safe food handling certificate
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and hygienic work environment 
  • Proven experience and skills in cash handling and customer service
  • Experience in food preparation, meal costing, menu creation and cooking 
  • Able to work in an efficient and timely manner
  • Professional, friendly and responsive
  • Able to work with other team members effectively
  • Able to work independently in the kitchen

Duties will include:

  • Preparing and cooking all food items on the Café Y menu, help develop and change the menu as required, ensure efficient ordering of produce and keep the kitchen clean and adhering to all health and safety standards
  • Ensuring Café Y runs efficiently as a social enterprise serving high quality food and drinks to customers 
  • Conducting general cleaning duties throughout the cafe
  • Ensure compliance of workplace, health and safety, and other legislative requirements
  • Ensure Café Y, including catering, runs efficiently as a social enterprise serving high quality food/ drinks to customers, providing the customer with a good Café Y ‘experience’.

We are on the search for a passionate and driven Café Cook with a strong work ethic and collaborative work style, to join our team. 


Café Y is a Social Enterprise Café in the Sutherland Shire managed by the charity Project Youth. The café exists to ensure all young people regardless of the disadvantages they may face, have the opportunity to thrive.  With over 8 years in operation Cafe Y is a truly unique café. The Café is committed to providing quality service, fabulous food and coffee, to our community of customers, while also helping to make a difference in the lives of the young people we support.
