Y Housing Property and Tenancy Worker 

Project Youth, established over 27 years ago, is a Non-Government, not for profit organisation based in Southern Sydney, providing support and assistance to young people who are homeless or facing disadvantage. Project Youth's vision is to create a future where all young people can thrive regardless of the disadvantage they face. To do this Project Youth provide trauma-informed support for young people aged 12-24 who have complex needs, are at risk, come from disadvantaged backgrounds and would not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support.

Our work is in three main areas:

  1. Homelessness and Housing: Accommodating young people in crisis and supports transition into independent living or returning to their family home
  2. Early Intervention: Intervening early to reduce and stop escalation of issues
  3. Education, Employment and Training: Providing pathways to employment and education through our 2 social enterprises, Cafe Y and Labour Y

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Tenancy and Property Worker. You will be required to provide Property and Tenancy management functions for our Y housing program. 

The worker will be based in the Sutherland Shire.

The role is full-time but part time can be negotiated. It is paid at SCHADS award level 4.

The role will report directly to the Housing Manager of Project Youth. 
The main responsibilities:

  • New tenant sign up and tenancy management
  • Maintenance reporting and management of repairs
  • Asset management
  • Rent collection 
  • Work alongside case workers to assist young people who require support to maintain their tenancy 
  • Build and maintain relationships with major stakeholders eg Government Departments, other NGOs and trades people
  • Ensure best practice is follow at all times in line with Project Youth’s values and purpose

The successful candidate will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant field
  • Very organised and efficient work practices
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and committed to supporting a not-for profit organisation
  • Previous Tenancy and Property Management experience
  • Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently
  • Experience working with young people
  • Excellent written and communication skills 
  • Experience using CIMS and Chintaro or similar tenancy management system
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, including effective listening, empathy, discretion, diplomacy and the ability to build and sustain relationships
  • Strong relationship management and/or customer service experience and skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and establish priorities
  • High levels of attention to detail and strong administrative skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Current drivers licence and access to a vehicle.

All Project Youth employees are required to undergo a National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check by the relevant State and Territory Government(s) as a condition of employment.

Student Placements

We get a lot of interest from students wanting to do placements at Project Youth. We're currently working with TAFE NSW, Sutherland College Loftus Campus, to try and accomodate their Youth Work students in the first instance. If you are a TAFE student speak to your placement coordinator.

However, other student may apply by completing the Expression of interest form and emailing it to admin@projectyouth.org.au

Muscle Up Mentors!

Project Youth is currently looking for male mentors for our Muscle Up/Fit for Life boys fitness program.

The program will run across both Sutherland and St George areas...join one program or join them both!! Programs runs from 7am-8.15am on Weds (Sutherland) and Tues (St George).

Project Youth works in partnership with local police and PCYC to provide assistance and support to young people at risk. The aim of the program is to increase positive relationships between young people and available support services, and increase positive behaviours and school attendance by the young participants.

Muscle Up/Fit for Life has a strong focus on fitness
and encouraging the boys to positively engage in their community.

Our mentors are an integral part of this program. Volunteers who participate in this program are expected to participate in the fitness alongside the young people to encourage them to participate to the best of their potential and also ensure each young person is well supported throughout the program whilst also making the fitness enjoyable!!
