Housing-Youth Support Worker

The Role

Project Youth, established over 30 years ago, is a Non-Government, not for profit organisation based in South Eastern Sydney, providing support and assistance to young people who are homeless or facing disadvantage. Project Youth's vision is to create a future where all young people can thrive regardless of the disadvantage they face. To do this Project Youth provides trauma-informed support for young people aged 12-24 who have complex needs, are at risk, come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support.

Our work is in three main areas:

1. Homelessness and Housing: Accommodating young people in crisis and supporting transition into independent living or returning to their family home

2. Early Intervention: Intervening early to reduce and stop escalation of issues

3. Education, Employment and Training: Providing pathways to employment and education

Y Housing Youth Support Worker (Full Time)


We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and committed person to assist young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through broad and flexible service models.

The Main Responsibilities

You will be required to provide complex individualised support to young people living in Project Youth’s transitional housing program and young people at risk of homelessness. 

Experience in support planning and working in the youth homelessness sector is required.


38 hours per week, to be worked between 8.00am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday with flexibility for client and service delivery needs.

Essential

• Qualifications in Social Science, Humanities or other relevant disciplines and/or relevant experience.

• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the issues faced by young people requiring housing assistance

• Demonstrated skills in support planning with young people, including goal setting and outcomes-based focus

• Proven ability to work as part of a team as well as individually

• Excellent time management and organisational skills

• Proven ability to work with a diverse range of clients

• Commitment to the principles of equity of access, cultural diversity, client service and accountability

• Proven ability in taking referrals and conducting assessments based on individual needs

• Groupwork skills 

• Understanding of WHS requirements

• High level of written and oral communication 

• Computer Literacy

• Ability to manage time effectively, plan and prioritise tasks

• Ability to work to deadlines and meet KPIs

• Possess a good understanding of trauma informed principles and young person-centred approach and an ability to implement this into practice  

• Drivers Licence and own vehicle.

• Current Working with Children's Check 

• National Police Check

Desirable

• Current First Aid certificate
