Crisis Accommodation Youth Support Worker - Fulltime
The Role
Project Youth, established over 30 years ago, is a Non-Government, not for profit organisation based in South Eastern Sydney, providing support and assistance to young people who are homeless or facing disadvantage. Project Youth's vision is to create a future where all young people can thrive regardless of the disadvantage they face. To do this Project Youth provides trauma-informed support for young people aged 12-24 who have complex needs, are at risk, come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support.
Our work is in three main areas:
Homelessness and Housing: Accommodating young people in crisis and supporting transition into independent living or returning to their family home
Early Intervention: Intervening early to reduce and stop escalation of issues
Education, Employment and Training: Providing pathways to employment and education
We have a very exciting role for a passionate and committed person who would love to work as part of a dedicated team of professionals and assist young people to be housed safely while working on their goals in one of our crisis refuges.

The Main Responsibilities
- Facilitation and management of shared home living environment
- Casework support to young people in the residence
- Operation of intake information and referral service during designated hours.
- Assess needs of young people and their families who make contact with the project.
- Provide information to young people, carers, community members and other services who come into contact with the agency on a range of issues.
- Working with young people to advocate and ensure access to services and entitlements.
- Life Skills and social skills programs for young people who are ‘at risk’ or are homeless.
- Participation and delivery of collaborative life skills group work program as appropriate
- Provide a safe, supportive environment for young people to reside
The Person
The role is fulltime 38 hours per week, working on a 24 hour rotating roster including overnight, weekend shifts and public holidays.
It is paid at SCHADS award level 4 plus salary sacrifice and shift penalties.
You will be required to work closely with the Practice lead and small refuge team, conduct trauma informed support planning with young people in crisis situations, manage house dynamics, supervise daily activities, contribute to the overall running of the house and to generally assist young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through broad and flexible service models.
Experience working in a youth homelessness setting will be highly valued

Qualifications:
- Qualifications in Youth Work, Social Science, Humanities or other relevant disciplines
- Drivers Licence and own vehicle
- Working with Children’s Check and National Police check clearance
- Current First Aid Certificate
Essential criteria:
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the issues faced by young people requiring housing assistance
- Experience in youth service delivery particularly in a residential setting
- Demonstrated skills in support planning with young people, including goal setting and outcomes-based focus
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Proven ability to work autonomously as well as in a small and larger team environment
- Commitment to the principles of equity of access, cultural diversity, client service and accountability
- Proven ability in taking referrals and conducting assessments based on individual needs
- Ability to work with a diverse range of young people
- Ability to assist young people to develop skills in preparation for independence; including living skills education and social skills development
- Proven understanding of and ability to work within a trauma informed practice framework
- Understanding of WHS requirements
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Competence in the use of computers
- Evidence of Covid – 19 vaccinations
