Cafe Food and Beverage Supervisor

The Role

The Role:


The role will be based in Menai - South East Sydney.


The role is for a period of 12 months. It is a fulltime position with a guarenteed 38 hours per week and paid at Restaurant Industry Award 2010 (General) Level 5 


The supervisor will report directly to the Employment, Education and Training Manager and will oversee Project Youths social enterprise Cafe.

About Project Youth

Project Youth, established over 30 years ago, is a Non-Government, not for profit organisation based in South Eastern Sydney, providing support and assistance to young people who are homeless or facing disadvantage. Project Youth's vision is to create a future where all young people can thrive regardless of the disadvantage they face. To do this Project Youth provides trauma-informed support for young people aged 12-24 who have complex needs, are at risk, come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support.


Our work is in three main areas:


Homelessness and Housing: Accommodating young people in crisis and supporting transition into independent living or returning to their family home

Early Intervention: Intervening early to reduce and stop escalation of issues

Education, Employment and Training: Providing pathways to employment and education

This is an exciting role a cafe supervisro who is passionate about running an established small social enterprise cafe




The Person

The Person:


We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic and talented individual with a strong work ethic and collaborative work style, to join our team. 


The Cafe supervisor will:


• Expand and enhance the existing business / social enterprise Café Y, , in particular developing a ‘point of difference’ and increasing the revenue.

• Ensure Café Y, including catering, runs efficiently as a social enterprise serving high quality food/ drinks to customers, providing the customer with a good Café Y ‘experience’.

• Train, supervise and work with at risk young people who may be given paid employment or traineeships within the Café.


Essential criteria:


  • Food Safety supervisors certificate
  • Proven experience in hospitality and safe food handling
  • Experience in food preparation, meal costing and cooking
  • Proven experience in ordering and maintain stock
  • Proven experience in managing/ coordinating a hospitality business
  • Proven experience working with KPIs
  • Proven experience and skills in Customer service
  • Proven excellent Barista skills
  • Understanding of issues young people face
  • Proven ability to work with young people with varying support needs
  • Proven experience working within a budget, balance and bank daily café takings
  • Proven understanding of workplace anti-discrimination and WHS requirements
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and hygienic work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise trainees

Desirable criteria:

  • Hospitality Certificate 4
  • Drivers Licence and own vehicle
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in, or knowledge of, youth service delivery models
  • Experience in, or knowledge of social enterprise models

All Project Youth employees are required to undergo a National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check by the relevant State and Territory Government(s) as a condition of employment.
